Free and Pay-What-You-Want 5e DMs Guild Highlights: Week Ending 7.27.19

Every week, talented creators upload products to the DMs Guild, pricing them as free or pay-what-you-want in order to reach customers. Dozens of new free and pwyw products are added each week alone. It is a lot to sort through. My hope is that highlighting a few of each week's best supplements will help the designers get the attention they deserve.

You can find previous posts in this series HERE.

PLEASE NOTE: This series will not be appearing next week, but will be back on 8.10.19.

Old School 5th Ed. Character Sheet from Billy Longino

I have actually been using this retro-style sheet for years; I guess I saw it on Reddit? Who knows. It is great you can get it here on the DMs Guild now. This is a cool take on the old "goldenrod" 1e AD&D sheet.

D&D 5e Character Professions from FuzzyTuna Taco

This is an inventive alternate system for professions. Players gain xp in their professions the more they utilize them, unlocking more abilities. Breathes new life into 5e's tools and mundane gear.

Playas Gotta Play, Brain Suckas Gotta Suck Brain from Ben Boyarko

Wonderfully imaginative pseudo-module set in the otherworldly Casino Tentacular.

Grazaxe's Deck of Magical Loot from A.J. Moore

So this is meant to be printed and cut into cards; it follows the same suits, etc of a normal card deck. There are a bunch of interesting new magic items here, so even if you don't use it as a card deck, it has some value. Could make for a fun way to hand out items at your table.

The Urchin of Camorr from David Barrentine

This one of the best looking PWYW adventures that I have ever seen on the Guild. Pro layout and art, top-notch cartography, new items, player handouts...very nice. This is part one of a series of modules comprising The Knights of the Shadowfell mega-adventure. I would love to snag a print copy when the whole thing is completed. In this first adventure, children are disappearing from Camorr and the players have to get to the bottom of it.

My Daughter's One Page Dungeon Entry is a Winner (FREE PDF)

So it looks like my daughter's entry for this year's One Page Dungeon Contest is one of the winners! The winners have been announced HERE. She was SO excited when I told her. It was completely her idea; I even used her exact wording. I know I am biased, but I really think she did have some cool ideas, and her map...well her map is flat-out awesome.

You can download a copy of her adventure HERE.

Congrats to the other folks who participated; "win" or "lose", it is a wonderful thing to participate in, and the compilations make for some of the coolest gaming material in the hobby.

Thought Eater Podcast: Five Minute Friday: Solo Gaming

I was packing up some solo gaming material for a trip, and it inspired me to discuss solo games today on the podcast. I am hoping listeners might call-in for a future episode on the topic.

Humpday Blog-O-Rama 7.24.19

Blogs are an integral, vital part of the RPG hobby. They serve as incubators for new games, sounding boards for fresh ideas, and platforms for up-and-coming talent. They keep "forgotten" games alive, foster discussions, and build communities.

Every Wednesday on the Thought Eater podcast and blog, I take a look at what is going on in the vibrant RPG blog scene. Check out previous Humpday Blog-O-Rama posts HERE.

Free and Pay-What-You-Want 5e DMs Guild Highlights: Week Ending 7.20.19

Every week, talented creators upload products to the DMs Guild, pricing them as free or pay-what-you-want in order to reach customers. Dozens of new free and pwyw products are added each week alone. It is a lot to sort through. My hope is that highlighting a few of each week's best supplements will help the designers get the attention they deserve.

You can find previous posts in this series HERE.

Protege: Sidekick Class from Clan Crafter Hralding

This is part of a series (also see the Squire and Mage Apprentice) providing additional Essentials-box "Sidekicks", which are sort of like henchmen. Could be useful if you run a small party. These appear to be based on the UA articles, so I am not sure how much those rules changed between the box set release. I bought the box and haven't had time to read it yet. Sigh.

Eberron Battlemaps - Lightning Rail from Thomas Pedersen

Eberron always promises a D&D "noir" experience but never seems to deliver. You might just have to do it yourself; these lightning rail maps may help.

Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide to Mass Combat from Darrin Scott

Killer free supplement outlining mass combat "squad" rules. Snag it.

Abominable Aberrations! from Ben Boyarko

Do you like weird monsters? Well, you're in luck this week. Wonderfully amateurish artwork highlights this bizarre bestiary.

Interlibrary Loan from John Henry Adams

Creative encounters help this delivery-themed hexcrawl adventure stand out from the pack. Check out other adventures in the series HERE and HERE.

Thought Eater Podcast: Five Minute Friday: Unknown Clones: Iron Falcon

Today I am continuing my series on Unknown Clones, OSR games that have kind of flown under the radar. Today I look at Iron Falcon, the excellent OD&D+Greyhawk clone.
