Humpday RPG Show 1.13.21

Aside from the actual PLAYING of games, my favorite things about this wonderful hobby are those two bastions of DIY creativity, zines and blogs. Join me each week on the Thought Eater podcast as I share the blogs, zines, and RPG bric-a-brac that caught my eye.

Have you started a new blog recently? Are you working on a zine? Are you a content creator that would like to be considered for an interview on the show? Want to send me review copies of what you're working on? I want to hear from you! Email me at frothsof at gmail or use the contact form on my blog (visible in desktop mode in the right-hand column).

Free and Pay-What-You-Want 5e DMs Guild Highlights: Week Ending 1.10.21

Every week, talented creators upload Dungeons and Dragons products to the DMs Guild, pricing them as free or pay-what-you-want in order to reach customers. Dozens of new free and PWYW products are added each week alone. It is a lot to sort through. My hope is that highlighting a few of each week's best supplements will help the designers get the attention they deserve.

Improved Inspiration from FryMinis

Inspiration always sort of felt like a tacked-on rule, and most GMs I have played with simply forget to use it. Here is a noble attempt to change that with a wider variety and degree of inspiration rewards.

Really nice jungle map pack; you can easily design an entire adventure around these. I like that there are variations on the same map. For example, there is a coastal map both with and without a shipwreck.

I have mentioned before how terrible I am at making up magic items. I also really enjoy lesser items that you can toss into your game without breaking it. This is a nice collection of such items, ostensibly for sale at a little magic shop. Bonus points for the well-written flavor text for each item.

Huge pack of 25 cave and cavern maps. Includes lots of bandit hideouts, underdark flora, subterranean rivers, and the like.

Free and Pay-What-You-Want 5e DMs Guild Highlights: Week Ending 1.3.21

It has been a loooooong time since I have done one of these. I want to say thank you to folx that have reached out to me about this series and let me know they enjoyed it. It's back!

Mike's Free Map Collection #11 from Michael LaBossiere

They say you can have too much of a good thing, but I don't think that really applies to battlemaps. LaBossiere blesses us with another free pack; this one is heavy on seaside and forest scenes.

There are a ton of 5e DM screens out there, but this is one of the best I have seen. One of the things that separates it from others is that it has spots built into the screen to add your players' basic stats for easy tracking. Now why didn't I think of that?

Monster Magazine from Firbolg Factory

This living document collects all of the monster statistics appearing in the Dragon+ online magazine. I have read every issue, but I didn't really remember any of these. Useful and free.

Attack on Peltarch from Brett Sanders

I have been watching this Icelandic crime drama "Trapped" on Amazon Prime. This short adventure/setting supplement set in an icy, isolated FR town has sort of the same vibe. Pro layout, sandbox style, and an exceptional town map. Surprisingly free.

This collection of chilly encounters makes a great companion piece to Attack on Peltarch. Separate map files are included for easy VTT play.
