Free and Pay-What-You-Want 5e DMs Guild Highlights: Week Ending 2.8.20

Every week, talented creators upload Dungeons and Dragons products to the DMs Guild, pricing them as free or pay-what-you-want in order to reach customers. Dozens of new free and pwyw products are added each week alone. It is a lot to sort through. My hope is that highlighting a few of each week's best supplements will help the designers get the attention they deserve.

You can find previous posts in this series HERE.

Magic Mirrors from Petr Joura

This was a really original idea for a supplement. You get ten magical mirrors, complete with hooks and encounter ideas to use in your games. Any of these would make for a cool basis of an adventure. I really loved the artwork as well.

Heroes and Foes-Waman from Eric J. Leybourne

Heroes and Foes is a cool series introducing new NPCs and adventure hooks, with stats presented for a variety of challenge levels. Here we have Waman, a dread pirate of a sort of monkey-like lineage. Includes several new magic items tied to Waman and some great art. Very useful for a Saltmarsh/nautical game.

A Character Study from Brendan Quinn-Larsen

If you enjoy creating detailed backstories for your characters, you might want to check this out. There are two different documents, one to note your PCs appearance, and another for their background. Form-fillable and print-friendly options are included.

Great adventures start with great hooks, and I love the hook for this Ravnica-based module. The students at Prism University are abusing a new drug. Can the PCs discover the source? Part one of a new series. A lot of modules can be set anywhere, but I liked that this one is pretty inextricable from Ravnica.

Wild Magic Warlock from Robert Baldino

I would really love to play this one. I like the idea of being able to recover a warlock spell slot, but it being risky to do so. Wild magic somehow feels more at home with the warlock as opposed to the sorcerer for me.

Madam Ensil's Roguish Accessories from the Royal City Society and Braeden Mills

This is a really fun collection of rogue-specific items, along with the speakeasy where you can find them. Very inventive. Explosive tripwire. Hemophilic arrows tipped with venom that prevent blood from clotting. All kinds of cool stuff along with maps and NPC notes.

Humpday Blog-O-Rama 2.5.20

Blogs are an integral, vital part of the RPG hobby. They serve as incubators for new games, sounding boards for fresh ideas, and platforms for up-and-coming talent. They keep "forgotten" games alive, foster discussions, and build communities.

Every Wednesday on the Thought Eater podcast and blog, I take a look at what is going on in the vibrant RPG blog scene. Check out previous Humpday Blog-O-Rama posts HERE.

Sunday Zine Club: Episode #2 (Guest: Ray Otus)

Aside from the actual PLAYING of games, my favorite things about this wonderful hobby are those two bastions of DIY creativity, zines and blogs. I tackle blogs every week on Humpday Blog-O-Rama...and now on Sundays I bring you Sunday Zine Club! Pocketmods, pamphlets, digest-sized, PDFs...I love them all! Expect cool features, news, reviews, interviews, and more! All of the links from related topics will be listed here on the blog, much like the Humpday show.

You can "join the club" and make the show better. Are you working on a zine? Do you have zine-related news to share? Would you like to send me a review copy or to be considered for an interview on the show? I want to hear from you! Email me at frothsof at gmail or use the contact form on my blog (visible in desktop mode in the right-hand column).

Free and Pay-What-You-Want 5e DMs Guild Highlights: Week Ending 2.1.20

Every week, talented creators upload Dungeons and Dragons products to the DMs Guild, pricing them as free or pay-what-you-want in order to reach customers. Dozens of new free and pwyw products are added each week alone. It is a lot to sort through. My hope is that highlighting a few of each week's best supplements will help the designers get the attention they deserve.

You can find previous posts in this series HERE.

5 Goblins Paper Miniatures & Clip Art from Misosile Busher (HIZIKI)

I used to spend a small fortune on miniatures, but I have found it to be much more affordable and honestly more fun using paper minis and tokens. When you have large groups of monsters, not a lot of folks have 8 or 9 minis of the same monster type to use. Paper minis also allow for unexpected and unique artwork, such as that seen here. I love these little goblins.

The Disruptor: An Artificer Specialist from Will Brolley, Imogen Gingell, and Laura Hirsbrunner

So at the risk of dating myself, I grew up loving the old Disney movie Tron. One of the things I loved most were the light disc duels. My brother and I would simulate the combat with some frisbees. That probably had some influence on how much I enjoyed this Artificer archetype, as it utilizes "blast disks". This is an excerpt from a larger work, Archetypes of Eberron, and given the high production values and quality design seen here, I have to imagine it is well worth picking up. Free.

Outclassed: The NPC Statblock Compendium from William Rotor

This is pure gold. Just pure, unadulterated gold. This 230+ page reference work provides, in painstaking detail, hundreds of NPC statblocks for every conceivable archetype.  No longer shall you spend the time and effort to create full characters just so your party can face an enemy with class levels. Thoughtful no-frills layout and hyperlinks allow for easy use. Every DM should download this. One of the most useful supplements on the DMs Guild.

Gooseriders of Harunnk from Tyson VanOverhill

I didn't realize how much I needed this. Delve into the world of the Gooseriders, those fabled followers of the goblin god Haruunk. Become a "Goosespeaker" with a new Warlock pact, battle the terrible Dire Goose, and frighten foes with the Buffeting Honk cantrip. Absurd fun.

5e Puzzle: The Avurian Panetarium from Stephen Bull

I have always been awful at coming up with puzzles for my games. That's why I am thankful for creators like Stephen Bull. Check out more puzzles and products from Stephen HERE
