Thought Eater Podcast: Froth University: Prepping For My 1980's Horror/Comedy Magnum Opus

Hi everybody! I hope you are having a great weekend. I hope that you will join me on the podcast today as I discuss the preparations underway for my upcoming horror/comedy game! We will be using the Savage Worlds East Texas University setting, heavily influenced by classic comedies of the 1980's.

Free and Pay-What-You-Want 5e DMs Guild Highlights: Week Ending 10.19.19

Every week, talented creators upload Dungeons and Dragons products to the DMs Guild, pricing them as free or pay-what-you-want in order to reach customers. Dozens of new free and pwyw products are added each week alone. It is a lot to sort through. My hope is that highlighting a few of each week's best supplements will help the designers get the attention they deserve.

You can find previous posts in this series HERE.

With Halloween right around the corner, I am starting to see a lot of spooky supplements popping up on the Guild! Here are my favorites so far.

In the Dead of Night from Green Bird RPGs

In the latest from the talented Green Bird folks, the PCs get roped into working the "graveyard shift" at the local cemetery. The perfect choice for a Halloween one-shot.

So this is really short (just two little d20 tables), but the flavor is quite good. If you are running a Halloween one-shot game this year, try this for your trinket list.

Bearthazar's House of Fiends from Oliver Clegg

With Devil's Night rapidly approaching, maybe you will be tempted by this collection of infernal companions. Each of these little devils offer something to a PC...but they expect something in return. Will you sign the contract? The layout, flavor, and artwork here are fantastic.

Children are going missing and strange symbols are appearing around a village in the lead-up to a harvest festival. It shouldn't be too hard to hook your players into this short Halloween adventure.

Thought Eater Podcast: Five Minute Friday: My Biggest Weakness as a GM

Self-reflection is important. Today on the podcast, I discuss what I consider to be my biggest weakness as a GM. I am hoping to do a follow-up episode next week with listener feedback, so please leave a message on the Anchor app or a comment here about what you consider your biggest weakness as a GM, and I will feature it on next week's show.

Humpday Blog-O-Rama 10.16.19

Blogs are an integral, vital part of the RPG hobby. They serve as incubators for new games, sounding boards for fresh ideas, and platforms for up-and-coming talent. They keep "forgotten" games alive, foster discussions, and build communities.

Every Wednesday on the Thought Eater podcast and blog, I take a look at what is going on in the vibrant RPG blog scene. Check out previous Humpday Blog-O-Rama posts HERE.

Howdy all. I hope you are having or have had a great weekend. It has been forever since we had a game session, but we did manage to play last night. I gab a bit about it today on the podcast, then share a MASSIVE SHAKE-UP that will affect my Sunday shows going forward.

Free and Pay-What-You-Want 5e DMs Guild Highlights: Week Ending 10.12.19

Every week, talented creators upload Dungeons and Dragons products to the DMs Guild, pricing them as free or pay-what-you-want in order to reach customers. Dozens of new free and pwyw products are added each week alone. It is a lot to sort through. My hope is that highlighting a few of each week's best supplements will help the designers get the attention they deserve.

You can find previous posts in this series HERE.

Paper Minis of Phandelver from Owlbear Originals

I have mentioned my love of paper minis before. Here is a set covering all of the creatures from the original starter set adventure.

Roll to Feast from Matthew Jarmak

This is a great idea for a supplement. Want to add more...uh...flavor to your game? Here is a set of tables to devise unique menus for your taverns and inns.

A Wanderer's Guide to the Feywild from Tom C.

I was (and still am) a big fan of the way 4e handled the planes, and made liberal use of the Feywild and Shadowfell in my games. This is a really nice 50-page Feywild supplement for 5e, with professional layout, creatures, magic items, random tables, and tons of lore. Grab it for sure.

Tar Island from Green Bird RPGs

I have praised Green Bird in this column many times before, as their idiosyncratic art and unique and peculiar ideas have made them one of my favorite 5e publishers. With its earthquakes, tar sands, and weird oozes, this small island makes for a very memorable one-shot adventure location.

Thought Eater Podcast: Five Minute Friday: Unknown Clones: Dave Arneson Edition!

Happy Friday! Today I am doing a short podcast taking a look at an "unknown clone", Dragons at Dawn by DH Boggs. This was an attempt to recreate Dave Arneson's proto-D&D game system. Check out Boggs' blog HERE. Read a more detailed review of the game HERE.
